This is my Charm Square Sampler Quilt Top. I used a two Eat Your Fruits and Veggies by Pat Sloan charm packs and a red with white circles Lake House background from my LQS. I cut my sashing 2.5 inches and the blocks are 16 inches. Right now the top is 55 inches square--big enough for my kitchen table. I may add and additional outer border to allow for some shrinkage. Here is a link to Shannon's directions for this quilt http://moderntraditionquilts.blogspot.com
Now, I need to find a good quality backing as this will be washed all of the time.
My dishes are Fiestaware--in a rainbow of bright colors. I always make bright scrappy tablecloths to show them off.
I use quilts as tablecloths because these are absorbent, cheerful, and useful. I have made quilted placemats too, but they tend to shift around and have more spillages. Here is my Good Night Irene tablecloth quilt I made last spring. My Fiestaware looks great on it!
My birthday is coming and I am getting the Fiestaware canister set as an addition to my collection. I am trying to decide on what colors to get them in. My canisters go in my cabinet, but I may want to put them out on the counter. I like this color combination of the scarlet, tangerine, and sunflower. These colors look nicely with my granite and maple cabinets.
I finished up my Canning Season Block for the Farm Girl Vintage Sew Along
and the Chicken Foot Block.
Here are all of my Farm Girl Vintage Blocks so far. I am making them from my scrap bins and love how they are coming together.
The LQS is having a sale, so maybe I can find a backing for my Charm Square Sampler...
All so pretty! I love all the bright fun colors you've used.
ReplyDeleteYour Charm square sampler quilt top is wonderful....thanks for giving your sashing measurements wasn't sure what to cut for mine. Mind you I have to make the last block yet!! Love your other blocks...great to be using your scraps up ...best time to buy backing when a sale is on!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to make tablecloths out of your quilts! I am definitely going to try that. I have Fiesta Ware, too, and love how it goes with the scrappy colors.

ReplyDeleteThe bright colors are just perfect.
Your quilt looks like it will match your dishes perfectly! Very bright and cheerful.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of using a quilt for a tablecloth. What type of batting do you use in them. Would Thermore work??
ReplyDeleteI also love your idea for using quilts for tablecloths. The red background is fantastic! I really love all your farm girl blocks so far! The colors are perfect :)
ReplyDeleteTanya, I have my blocks all done for this same quilt, but not the sashing and backing yet. This week, my friend. This week! You're inspiring me with yours.

Great accomplishments, as per usual. I like the colour combo on your granite too! LQS having a sale...have fun!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't your quilt look great as a table cloth. The only thing I think is that you do not want to put too much work into it just in case it gets stained but I still think I will make one for my table.
ReplyDeleteVery bright and happy
ReplyDeleteHi Tanya - great work on the Sampler there - love your fabrics & the red does look so cheery & bright... I hope you find a backing you're happy with so you can get it finished & on your table!
ReplyDeleteYour Charm Square Sampler, with its red background and bright colors just knocks my socks off Tanya! And using a quilt as a tablecloth does look wonderful with your Fiestaware. We could never get away with doing that - we're too messy. Great progress on the Farm Girl blocks too1
ReplyDeleteThat quilt will look fantastic with your dishes!! And I love your Farm Girl blocks.

ReplyDeleteI also love Fiestaware and actually have a goal of getting rid of the ugly dishes I have now and replacing them with the colorful Fiestaware.
Your Charm Square Sampler is very bright and bold. It will look great with your Fiesta Ware.
ReplyDeleteWell I just love your Fiesta Ware and the fact that you use your quilts as tablecloths. I never thought this was possible because of the bulk (of mine), but it looks like you have a hang of it and I am taken by the idea of quilts being USED, what a colourful post
ReplyDeleteOh my, oh my, oh my, your post is so inspiring to me! I need to go ahead and finish the Charm Square Sampler QAL, too. I don't like my blocks near as much as yours, though. And those tablecloths! I so must make some for our home! We have a large table, so it will take some time, but oh my, I shall do this!!! And then your Farm Girl blocks are just lovely! Thanks for the inspiration!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Tanya! Your NEW colourful quilt is so beautiful! I love your dishes too! x Teje
