This is what we woke up to this morning 18+ inches of snow! We received word last night that today would be a snow day. You would think we have snow days all the time in western Colorado, but we do NOT. This is the second snow day in 23 years. The last one was December 2013.
Here is the same vantage point about noon on Sunday, so the accumulation was pretty quick.
We need the snow, so we are not complaining especially since we did not have to venture out in it today. Well, my hubby did since he plowed enough of the driveway for us to get our cars out tomorrow. It took him a couple of hours with the snowplow on his riding mower.
I made the most of the day as soon as my teenager woke up, I headed into my sewing room. I made my new block for the Charm Square Sampler Quilt. I was very tempted to start a new project, but I restrained myself and continued on with my scrap busting goal for 2015.
I decided to make some red Medallion Log Cabin blocks.
I got five made
and then decided to make some purple blocks too!
I made four purple blocks.
These are great 2.5 inch scrap busters! While I has digging in my scrap tubs for these blocks, I also cut 2.5 and 1.5 inch squares for more Carrie Nation blocks.
This is the quilt that inspired all these Medallion Log Cabin blocks. I think will have enough blocks to make several of these quilts. I know one will be a part of the Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge 2015 going to Happy Chemo. I am going to go throw some ravioli into the oven and spend some more time in my sewing room maybe I will dig into my orange scrap bin next. We are back to school tomorrow, but I am not complaining at least we got one snow day this winter! :0)
Wow! That is so much beautiful snow! Great quilt blocks, too.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's an awful lot of snow. I've only ever been in that much snow on a snow field. We don't even have snow plows in New Zealand! I'm sitting here with the windows open and bare feet thinking about an ice-cream because it's hot. At least you can have a productive day at home. Guess you'll need that ravioli because there won't be any BBQ tonight!
ReplyDeleteSeriously...that is a lot of snow overnight!! Thank goodnes you were able to make the best of it!!
ReplyDeletelove that last quilt that you show - beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSo glad that we haven't had that much snow. But becauseof the cold temps I have been in doing a lot of sewing.
ReplyDeleteLucky you! Looks like you put your time to good use! I really like the colors in your Charm Square sampler block!
ReplyDeleteYour snow pictures look great, but wow that is a lot of snow. Great to see your work and some interesting blocks.
ReplyDeleteWow! that's a lot of snow! But the 'effect' at your sewing machine is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteGreetings, Rike
How exciting to have an unexpected day just for you. Your scrap busting blocks look great all laid out.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great snow day you had! Those blocks are wonderful and wll make a stunning quilt!
ReplyDeleteWow! You accomplished a lot. I hope you had your slippers on and you were drinking hot chocolate too. We are in snowy PA. The big story here is the severe cold. The pretty snow on the ground at least brightens our days. Glad you are staying the course with you scraps. It is hard to be disciplined!
ReplyDeleteThey are all such happy colourful blocks Tanya! Good on you delving into your stash & using what you have...
ReplyDeletegreat snow pics, too
That is some snow - love what you accomplished. The rainbow log cabins are lovely!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks - beautiful snow !

I had a Snow Day/Sew Day today too! Woke up with just a couple of inches, but on this mountain that is enough to keep me home.
ReplyDeleteI always loved border collies :-) Snow days are the best sew days jen.neef@web.de
ReplyDeleteThat sure is a lot of snow!! Perfect excuse to stay inside.
ReplyDeleteThese blocks look great!
The snow looks so pretty can you tell I come from somewhere it doesn't snow. My first snow experience was in 2011 and I travelled to Canada for it. You made the most of your snow day the blocks look great.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your day off....18 inches is quite an amount to receive all at once.
ReplyDeleteGreat blocks, wonderful quilt! I had to stop and admire for a while.
ReplyDeleteGreat blocks! You are right, they look like fab scrap busters.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking this post up to Building Blocks Tuesday too!
That's just too much snow, but maybe if we had that much I might actually get out my machine and work too!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty log cabin! This would be another great project for my modern group to use up scraps. Check out our last quilt at http://quiltfabrication.blogspot.com/2015/02/a-modern-group-quilt.html
ReplyDeleteThanks for the idea!
Wonderful blocks! I keep wishing for snow here in Utah, but it just won't make it over here! Snow days are the best for crafting.
ReplyDeleteYou absolutely made the most of your snow day. I love the fabrics you are using.
ReplyDeleteWhat a crazy winter, but good for quilt making! Too bad about snow plows these days. It used to be that 18 inches would knock out school for a week! Your medallion log cabin blocks are so fun, and a great design for a donation quilt. I may need to "borrow" your pattern.
ReplyDeleteStash buster, eh? I'm trying to get through my knitting yarn stash!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness that is a huge lot of snow!! Here in Oz it is 28 deg C...cotton dress and bare feet for me!! You got a heap of blocks made, that is fantastic...you must be making a big hole in your scraps.
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with those medallion log cabin blocks! What a great way to use scraps. Going on my to do list. The snow did accumulate fast - we are praying for rain here so we too won't suffer a 4th year of drought. Thanks for linking to WIPs Be Gone. I enjoyed coming here and seeing all your eye candy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great use of a snow day!
ReplyDeleteGreat blocks, going on my to do list also! We have less snow here in Finland!
