I am participating in the Elephant Parade quilt along with Lorna over at http://sewfreshquilts.blogspot.com/p/elephant-parade.html
She posted the directions for the large elephant last Sunday, but I did not get them done until last night because I was busy at work and obsessed with quilting my Peppy Patches & Pinwheels whenever I had any spare time.
I am making my elephants scrappy from my very small stash of grays I have on hand. Unfortunately, I do not have "Fifty Shades of Grey" (PS I could not read that trashy stuff, romance/porn is not my thing!). The design calls for five mama elephants. There is more contrast with the last elephant, but the lighting was bad at 10pm in my sewing room...
Today Lorna posted the directions for the baby elephants. The quilt calls for 14 of them 5 facing right and 9 facing left. Here are my right facing babies
and my left facing baby elephants
and more
and more! I made all 14 today!!! I am not sure how I am going to do their eyes probably just some embroidery details. I can't wait until next week for the next block!
Have you seen this gorgeous scrappy four patch in the latest issue of American Patchwork and Quilting? I cancelled my subscription last year when I was getting Quiltmaker, but I borrowed my mom's copy yesterday when I was going through their mail. I want to make a quilt for my bed and I want it to be scrappy. This may be a possibility--they even have directions for a king sized version.
This is a very hectic week at work with parent/teacher conferences, so I probably won't get much sewing in until the weekend, but at least we have a four day weekend!

Love the elephants! So good of you to get them done with work being so busy!!
ReplyDeleteI adore your elephants! Seeing them makes me want to make some! So cute!
ReplyDeleteHello Tanya! Love your elephants and that is a most beautiful quilt! Hope you make yourself one!! :) xx
ReplyDeleteI heard your sewing machine humming this weekend! You elephants are adorable. I'm so bummed to miss out on this QAL but will enjoy your progress. Our conferences use to be before President's day but our district moved them to March??? But, this is the same district that doesn't have snow days built into the calendar (Though we get plenty of snow) and we now have to add 7 minutes to our day from March to May to make up for it!!! Quality education at it's best!!
ReplyDeleteYour elephants look great. I am behind, too. I just finished the large elephants last night and I'll be working to piece the small ones today. I hope you enjoy your upcoming 4 day weekend!
ReplyDeleteCute Elephants. I'd love to do this quilt along as well but I'm way behind in other things.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your elephants. :D I'm having such a hard time not jumping into this one - they're just so adorable. (I'm with you on the Shades thing - nasty garbage. Beyond the whole porn issue is all the psychotic stuff I hear people talk about with stalking, controlling everything in her life, etc. - how on earth is that romantic or sexy?? Gives me the heeby jeebies.) OK, so I'll be good and instead of pulling out my scrap bins and fat quarter tubs to see if I can make some elephants without purchases, I'm going to go work on the FMQ on Jovial's fill. . . Hopefully my back will be happy through the quilting around at least 2 tree blocks. :D
ReplyDeleteI love your elephant blocks, they are so cute! You must have been very busy this weekend to get all those blocks made.
ReplyDeleteThey look great! I really need to find some time to join in and make some elephants - I love them :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great block! First time I've seen an elephant block, and love it!!!!! Can't wait to see the finished quilt.
ReplyDeleteGreat elephants! I like the variations in the fabrics. i tried to read Fifty Shades, but it was so badly written that I gave up after a dozen pages. You didn't miss anything!
ReplyDeleteReally love the fabrics you used for your elephants Tanya!
ReplyDeleteThat scrappy 4 patch is really something!

ReplyDeleteYour ellies are looking great! I am behind as well. Still cutting...a little slow working around my 10 month old's nap times. Slow and steady! LoL I love seeing other's progress, though.
ReplyDeleteYour elephants are looking so cute. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThey are fab - the cuteness of them only increases with every photo!
ReplyDeleteAwesome elephants! I love the rainbow-y scrappy quilt, too!
ReplyDeleteLovely elephant blocks. By now I'm pretty sure that I cant resist them any longer.
ReplyDeleteGreat elephant blocks! You know I'm sure if you made those 4 patches as leaders and enders, you would have a whole quilt done in absolutely no time.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to Building Blocks Tuesday!
So adorable. I added the button to my blog so I could give these a go! They would make a great baby quilt
ReplyDeleteI adore those elephants! My daughter loves elephants..........maybe she will give me a grandchild if I make an ellie quilt! LOL
ReplyDeleteSuch cute elephants, Tanya! My God-daughter is from Thailand and is having a baby. I'll have to make one of these with pink ears - yes, it's a girl. Thank you for linking to WIPs Be Gone! Hope your week went well.
