Baby Quilt Finish

I got this baby quilt quilted and bound (for more details about this pattern see this post http://tanyaquiltsinco.blogspot.com/2014/07/work-in-progress.html). I quilted it vertically going through the round centers and down the sides of the rectangular blocks. I used the wavy quilt stitch on my Pfaff.
Angela and I had selected the backing fabric and it is part of Bonnie and Camille's Marmalade line. The binding is also from that same line and is a pink and white stripe. I love using stripes for binding! I think the backing is pretty and feminine and balances the bright, busy quilt. It is washed and ready to be delivered in plenty of time before the baby shower!
This is the Woodland ABC quilt I have been working on for my friend who is having a little girl in September. I finished piecing it today. Now I need to add the embroidery details onto the animals and get a backing for it. I am trying to decide if I am going to add another border to the top and bottom. I would just add another row of the brick style border, but it is already nearly 50 inches long. What do you think add another border row to the top and bottom or leave it the way it is?

  1. The alphabet quilt is cute as can be. It can also be a learning tool later on for the child. I haven't made a baby quilt in a good while. No one I know has had a baby in a long time.

  3. I wonder if it would end up looking long and thin if you add another border, I like it how it is - it's so cute! Great finish on the circles in squares quilt. Did you know you can add a link in Blogger so you don't have the URL written out? When you're writing a post, the button next to the photo button "link" - click on that and it brings up a dialogue box. Past in the URL in the bottom and change the text at the top to say whatever you like.

  4. The circle baby quilt turned out so pretty! I think the alphabet quilt looks nicely proportioned right now. When I saw it I didn't notice or think it was unproportional with one row on the top and bottom and three on the sides. I think it looks perfect!

  5. The baby quilt turned out well. Lovely backing fabric, too.
The ABC quilt is going to be a gorgeous gift!

  6. I vote for another row of bricks top and bottom -- baby quilts can't be too big in my opinion -- after all one's goal in making a baby quilt is that the baby will use it as long as possible . . . right?

  8. Tanya it turned out beautiful! I love the fabric you chose for the back and the binding. I bet Angela is thrilled. I also like the woodland quilt with the borders that you have, it will be a good size, I think I'd stop there.

  11. What a pretty baby quilt! The backing and binding sealed the deal :) I love the look of stripes on binding but oddly enough have never used striped binding for any of my quilts! I think that needs to change!

I wouldn't let size dictate whether you put another border on the top and bottom. . . Like Mary said, baby quilts can never be too big and the bigger they are, the longer they will get used :) I think it would look great either way. Not much help huh?

  12. Wow I love both of these quilts...these are some lucky little babies ! :) The alphabet quilt is great as-is but would look fine no matter what you added if you decide to.

  13. I love the backing of that top quilt!! At first glance, I thought you had piece that too and was shocked at the symmetry of it! Now I see that it's a pattern!
