These are the last two houses for the Country Homecoming Quilt Along over at http://kimsbigquiltingadventure.blogspot.com Go check out what everyone else's houses look like!
Now, I need to order a sashing and border fabric in black brushed cotton, so I can start on the border appliqué.
This one is from Paulette over at http://sweetp-paulette.blogspot.com Isn't hers fantastic? I am trying to decide if I will use wool felt or brushed cottons for the border.
I decided to join the fad and make an orange peel quilt. I am thinking a baby quilt... Here are my colors: yellow, pink, green, red, blue, orange, and purple.
I am using the method from the tutorial over on http://crazyoldladiesquilts.blogspot.com/2014/02/orange-you-glad-tutorial.html
I am thinking 10 x 12 on my layout and very similar to this quilt they showed except for a one color background.
Gathering fabrics for these orange peels was really easy because of my scrap bins. They are located below my cutting table in rolling plastic carts.
Each drawer contains a different color and most of them are over flowing!
I can actually remove the drawers and dig through them over at my ironing board.
My daughter made me cute labels for each drawer.
I need to decide whether I am going to use a white background or a gray background for my orange peels. Which color do you think?
The little houses look great. I really like the way the black sashing and border lifts the quilt in the example you posted. Love all the work in the border, too.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your orange peel blocks.
I love your house blocks,
ReplyDeleteYou have been busy! I am making orange peels, too. Just making a table topper size though. I have made all the little blocks, now just need to sew the top together. I thought the orange peels were fun to make!
ReplyDeleteI really like your house blocks! I have not made a house quilt yet but it is on my list. Your daughter made such cute labels for your fabric drawers! An orange peel quilt is on the list too! I would probably chose the light fabric for the background, but gray really seems to be 'in' right now.
ReplyDeleteBoth your quilts are looking great. I love house block quilts and love the citrus colours of your orange peel quilt. A great way to bust some of those scraps too! Your daughter's made a lovely job of those drawer labels. X
ReplyDeleteMmmm grey will make it darker but the white will make it a much more summery quilt.
ReplyDeleteYour choice though.
I have some house blocks to use up. Better start thinking about them
Don't you just love summer break!!! I continue to love your houses and ugh....the dark or light...I'm going with a white for a current "rainbow" scrap project I want to finish....don't know if that helps. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing my quilt! It was a fun one to make and looks wonderful with the border appliqued in either cotton or in wool! Mine is in cotton but my friend Glynis made her's in wool..check it out...http://sweetp-paulette.blogspot.ca/2014/07/homespun-houses.html. Lovely, isn't it! Yours is going to be beautiful either way!!
ReplyDeleteLove the Orange Peel quilt...it's another one that is on my TO DO LIST!! I will be looking over your shoulder!! :o))
I say go with the grey, it will be a lovely quilt!
ReplyDeleteGreat Job! I especially like the blue house! Seeing Paulettes quilt again made me grin. One of my last two houses really resembles the bright blue one in her lower right hand corner! Onward and Upward with the sashings and stars!
ReplyDeleteLove your organizing bins, looks much better than my boxes and totes full of grocery bags.
ReplyDeleteYou little houses are very cute and will make a lovely quilt!
ReplyDeleteI organize my scraps the same way! My drawers are overflowing too! I really like the Orange Peel quilt. I'm not sure I'd have the patience to trace, stitch, trim and turn all those pieces inside out. I'm sure it will be gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love your plaid house quilt. It will be adorable when you add the beautiful applique border! I especially love the other quilt you are making too. Is it applique or curved piecing? I know, I should follow the link for the answer, so I will. Love it!
ReplyDeleteYour house blocks are fantastic and will make a great quilt. Your orange peel quilt is quite different but equally stunning. I haven't done curved blocks yet- another for the bucket list. Visiting via Sew Cute Tuesday from Cardiff, UK.
ReplyDeletealso meant to say that the rolling bins with your scraps are a great idea and one I'm thinking of copying!
ReplyDeletePlaid houses are the best.
ReplyDeleteAfter your comment I had to come see you. I too love the orange peel quilt and I have added you too to my roll and I will look forward to what develop. Love you organize scraps. I need to do something like that, thank you.
ReplyDeleteLove your houses! The scrap bins are a really good idea. Great labels too!
ReplyDeleteYour houses look wonderful. I am sure your orange peel will be fabulous too. I would go with white, but if it is truly for a baby, choose gray. Thanks for linking up.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see all your houses together... They look great! Love the orange peel quilt idea. This is going to be great! Thanks for sharing the link, Tanya!
