July FNSI

I gave up counted cross stitching nearly 20 years ago when I started quilting. I have been looking at all the inspiration from Little Miss Shabby's Quilty Stitches http://www.littlemissshabby.com/quilty-stitches/ and I finally caved and bought all the supplies and started. I began on Wednesday after I finished moving my classroom at one of the schools I work at (imagine moving a small house in a day and trying to unpack everything too--stressful and totally annoying), hence my need for the therapy of handwork...
Since my cross stitching experience is from so many years ago, I am sticking to the suggested colors. The patterns are free and I have busted out my colored pencils to mark my patterns.
My eyes are not the same as when I cross stitched last, so I have busted out my readers to help. I spent July's Friday Night Sew In (FNSI)  finishing block two and working on block three. I also broke down and started on making orange peel blocks, but I plan on them being all machine done.  Be sure to check out what people around the world worked on for FNSI here http://sugarlanequilts.blogspot.com/2014/07/signups-for-fnsi.html also I will work on this project for Slow Sunday Stitching tomorrow. What are you up to?

  1. Those are so cute, I haven't done any cross stitch in years! I used to do quite a bit, and still have every DMC color made. I am working on a sewing accessory set, will have it on my blog later in the month.

  8. You've been quilting for 20 years!! Lucky you! So glad you got your classroom done...it IS a P.I.T.A.!! I smiled when ya said you needed some slow stitching to relax you...as this year I'm wool stitching in the evenings and so enjoy the therapy it offers. Loved that your shared your process and supply box.

  10. Cute little blocks. I haven't x-stitched for ages either. I wear bifocals all the time and can barely see!

  13. Love that cross stitch... it's worth breaking out the reading glasses for. Good idea to colour the chart too... anything that makes life easier is good in my book. Hope FNSI helped you de-stress.....xx

  15. Quilting and cross stitch.......it's a match made in heaven, I love using the two crafts together. Your cross stitch looks gorgeous and you have a really tidy thread box, I need to take note and give mine a sort through I think.
