Happy New Year! I squeezed in one last finish for 2017--our Denver Broncos Quilt. I used a pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew called Touchdown along with the letters and jerseys from Spelling Bee by Lori Holt. Here is a link to the Touchdown pattern:
I used the throw size and then made the six inch letters from the Lori Holt book.
For the backing, I made two jerseys from the book with some adjustments to look like John Elway's #7 and Peyton Manning's #18. My hubby requested Bronco fabric, so I combined a some orange and some blue into the pieced backing. He was really pleased with the backing and says it is reversible!
I quilted it horizontally with my wavy stitch on my Pfaff. I followed the lines of the sashing.
I think this is the biggest quilt I have ever done on my domestic Pfaff. It measures 57 x 86 inches. It was big enough for hubby and I to cuddle under for the final Bronco game. It was a rough season for the Broncos, but hopefully 2018 will be better.
The hardest part was the Bronco helmets! I had to come up with my own appliqué design for the logo and reverse it. I had planned to make two more for the bottom where is spells out BRONCOS, but the helmets were a little too big. Two helmets were more than enough!
I hand embroidered the label information between the jerseys and it was completed in 2017! My last finish for 2017.
This morning, I completed my first project for 2018--an I ❤ U pillow using the Spelling Bee book. It measures 12 x 16 inches and is already on my living room couch. I have another UFO to finish up before I start on some new goodies--glad I have this week off.
Happy 2018!
MAN! My Cowboys had a rough year as well. Still haven't figured out what's wrong with Dak. Oh well, there's always next year.... LOVE the quilt!!!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is probably the biggest win the Broncos had this year! Nice job.
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing, Tanya!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou have had a very productive year and this is a great quilt to finish on!!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! You just have to love that football quilt! Those jerseys on the back are wonderful as well! Congratulations on a fun fun finish!
ReplyDeleteI know several people in my life who would love that quilt. It's a great finish!
ReplyDeleteFantastic quilt!! Our Panthers didn't show up for the game last weekend, so even though they made the wild card slot, I don't expect much more this year.
ReplyDeleteThey're celebrating in Buffalo where the Bills made the playoffs for the first time in 17 years! Rabid fans met the team at the airport at 2AM in 2° temperatures.

What a great quilt. Someone has a quilt pattern that has one big football. I've made it the regular size (adding some "grass" along the sides) and then enlarging it for my 6'3" son. It was a quick finish but I much prefer your version with all of the footballs. So fun. I make quite a few donation quilts for our local women's abuse shelter. It's easy to come up with ideas for girl quilts but not so easy for boy quilts. I'll have to make this one in 2018. Someone's son will love it. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThe Broncos quilt turned out great! I need to make an Eagles one but that is so far down the list :)
ReplyDeleteHappy, Healthy and Quilty 2018!
Wow! I bet there are a lot of Denvr fans that would love to have that quilt.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteOh, that is a great quilt, Tanya! Perfect for Bronco fans like you and your husband. (We're trying to be positive at our house, but it's been pretty hard!) Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteCreative. Not only are you a fantastic quilter but also a great fan.
ReplyDeleteI've had my eye on this pattern for a while now. Love your rendition. Sometime Bronco fabric is hard to find. My guys would love it! Fingers crossed for 2018 season!
ReplyDeleteIf the Broncos had seen your fantastic quilt, maybe they would have a better season. Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteHi Tanya,
ReplyDeleteFabulous finish for 2017 and a cute start for 2018! I know the Broncos are going to have a much better season coming up (Packers, too, please!). I can't wait to see what that other UFO is when you share it. ~smile~ Roseanne
Be still my heart! You had me at the front of the quilt but then I saw the jerseys on the back! Here's to a better season next year! Go Broncs!
ReplyDeleteGreat projects, I love the creativity for the back of the quilt.
ReplyDeleteMy Dad is a Broncos fan and would love this! I remember going to Mile High as a kid. I would call that quilt reversible too - it's fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool fan quilt!!! And neat that you guys snuggled in it for that game. Do you mind if I use your idea about the jerseys for the back of a graduation quilt I'll make for our Air Force Academy cadet that we sponsor? (He's on their football team)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt!
