Grow Your Blog 2015 & Giveaway

Hi, I'm Tanya, a wife, a mom, a teacher, and a quilter in Colorado. This is my second year participating in the Grow Your Blog event. Here is the link to the event http://vicki-2bagsfull.blogspot.com/2015/01/welcome-to-2015-grow-your-blog-party.html
I have been blogging for a year and a half and quilting for 20 years! I took my first quilting class in January 1995 and I became completely addicted. I started blogging because I live in a small town where most of the quilting is traditional. I make plenty of traditional quilts, but I needed modern inspiration which led me to the quilt blogging world. The Rainbow Orange Peel Baby Quilt I made last summer based on some amazing quilts I saw on blogs. I love it so much, I am thinking of making a queen size one for our bed. In 20 years of quilting, I have never made a quilt for my own bed!
Since I have quilted for two decades, I have an enormous stash and I love to make things from my scrap bins and stash. This is my Country Little Letters- a stash quilt- which was a part of a quilt along with Temecula Quilt Company.
This is my Variegated Violets Baby Quilt I made for my neighbor. This was also a stash quilt. I followed a tutorial I found on-line and quilted it myself on my Pfaff.
In 2014, I made this Love Blooms Here Wool Felt Quilt featured in Quiltmaker.  I enjoy the feel of wool felt and like the primitive hand stitching. It is pinned and ready for hand quilting with perle cotton while I am parked in front of my TV. The only thing I bought to make this quilt was a magazine subscription to Quiltmaker and two small pieces of yellow wool--my stash is large!
Handwork is therapeutic for me, it makes me slow down and relax while creating something with my hands. I like to incorporate embroidery into my quilts. This is a close up of some embroidery in my Journey of a Quilter BOM I have been working on.
I am in the process of hand quilting it and only have the outer border left! Hopefully, it will be hanging in my sewing room in a couple of weeks. Every Sunday, I participate in Slow Sunday Stitching over at http://kathysquilts.blogspot.com for inspiration.
Over the years, I have acquired lots of UFOs and have experimented with many quilting techniques. While digging through some of my stash, I discovered this paper piecing kit. The design is a gardener's potting bench and makes a mini quilt. I know I will never make it because  I really dislike paper piecing!
So, how about I give it away! Here are the fabrics included in the kit. To enter, please leave me comment telling me your favorite dog breed (I am a dog lover). I will randomly choose a winner on February 15. Good luck and please visit again!

I am having issues with my follow me with Bloglovin' link and have removed it temporarily, but I hope to get it back up and running soon....

  12. Hi Tanya, I would have a hard time picking a favorite breed since I have three dogs and they are all different breeds. I have a yorkie, shih tzu and lab mix. But I will say that if I got another I would go for another yorkie (no sheding and really loveable). Thanks for the chance.

  13. I took my first quilting class around 1995 too. Only I had a very long dry spell and still need to quilt that first project. Thanks for visiting my blog on the GYB party. It was great reading about you and your giant stash. I may just be a little jealous about that. Blessings!

  15. Hello fellow GYB-er! I love the freshness of your work - especially the scrappy one with hand embroidered accents.
My favorite dog breed is "rescued." That's the only kind we'll consider!
I would love to be entered into your give away. Thank you!

  16. Hi Tanya! I love this Blog meet & greet; I would never have found your blog otherwise! My favorite dog would have to be any that has been rescued or adopted thru a pound. We currently have 5 rescues! Blessings:)

  19. Hello Tanya, happy to meet you through the GYB party. I'll tell you about my dogs but I I'd rather not be included in your very nice give away (I hate paper piecing too). My current pups are: a gorgeous German Shepherd named River and a rescue Labrador X Border Collie named Shadow. They are my constant companions and clowns. I really don't have a favorite breed as I love every dog I've ever had and most have been pretty mixed up or Heinz 57 as they say. Thanks for following me @ Dogwood Lane Rambles, Patrica

  22. In theory I love Scottie dogs, and have ever since I was 6 and was given a t-shirt (which I still have) with one on. In real life though I'm terrified of almost all dogs, unless they are old ones who won't ever jump up or bark at me!

  28. Hi Tanya. I'm not really a dog fan, but if I had to pick one I guess I'd say Sharpei. They use one to advertise toilet paper here and he always looks so cute.

  29. There are as many breeds of quilters as there is dogs!!! But my all time favorite is golden retreivers. We have a 13 year old one and a 6 month old one! I just couldn't see life without a dog in it!
Love your style of quilting...there is lots to be learned by moving around in blog land!!!

  30. I really like how you add embroidery to your quilts. It makes them feel so much more personal! And I've never made a quilt for my bed either. :) We've had four German Shepherds - they are most definitely our favorite breed - but most dogs are so cute to me! Thanks for linking up to MCM!

  35. I LOVE LOVE LOVE paper piecing!
I have had many dogs over the years. The only purebread dogs we had were dachshunds and they can be great, but they are SO stubborn and difficult to housebreak. The best dogs I have had were mutts. My sweet darling little boy who passed awhile back was a shar-pei, lab, pit mix. He was the best dog a person could ever hope for and I miss him dearly

  43. I grew up with labs and still have a soft spot for them, but I fell in love with the whippet breed (think smaller greyhound), and when one needed rescuing in Fort Worth, I drove 4 hours, took one look at him, and fell in love for nearly 6 years. When the whippet slowed down, I rescued a lab mix (she has the lean body and long legs of a whippet, but the hair and tail of a lab and the heart of a terrier) from the local shelter. Looking for another whippet to rescue, but they are great dogs and fortunately very few need rescuing! I'd love to get more into paper piecing, and am visiting from Quilt Story's Fabric Tuesday.

  47. Visiting from GYB... frankly, I dont have a favorite as I dont' have any pets. At my age, I just don't want to deal with that! But... my 14 year old grand daughter has a black lab and they bought her when I was with them and tossing around names and I said Ryder and they loved it and the dog is really sweet and calm and everything, so I'll say labs are my fav! I love your BLOOM quilt tho!

You and I have a lot in common, rather scary, but you know what they say about birds of a feather...I quit teaching 2.5 years ago, and I will actually collect my pension (egad) at the end of May. Large stash, quilting since '95, modern quilting and quilt blogland, I hear you sista! Give the pp to someone else; I have a couple (that and appliqué) projects sitting in my sewing room, bahaha. Love your rainbow orange peel quilt, mmm!
