Farm Girl Vintage 2

Happy Fallish! I received my Farm Girl Vintage 2 by Lori Holt yesterday. You know how I love her designs, so I dove right in and started making some of the fall themed blocks with the intent to make a new fall door banner.
The book is awesome with very detailed instructions--the only bummer is I already own a lot of these block patterns! I bought many of them separately over the years, but now they are all in color and easily accessible in one place. The photography in the book is top notch!
With fall on my mind and cooler temperatures today--only in the 70s, I busted out a spiced cider candle for my warmer as I worked on my door banner. We could leave the windows open all day and had a little bit of thunder and sprinkles. I also washed the sheets and did laundry--call me domestic!
I made a 12 inch Mr. Scarecrow Block and put him in the middle.
I made a six inch Maple Leaf Block and a six inch Little Acorn Block for the bottom. You could also use some blocks from Farm Girl Vintage too.
I made a six inch Autumn Pumpkin Block and a six inch Curious Crow Block for the top. The letters came from an Art to Heart book, Curiosities and Mischief. I machine appliquéd them with a buttonhole stitch on my Pfaff.
I cross hatched quilted it using a 1.5 inch grid. All fabrics were from my scrap bins and stash--nothing was purchased except the book!
It is ready to hand stitch the binding down tonight for Slow Sunday Stitching

I am off to the kitchen to start a big pot of chili--we are eating chili cheese fries for dinner tonight as we enjoy Sunday Night Football. I am also going to make a meatloaf tonight for sandwiches the rest of the week--cook once eat multiple times. Our Denver Broncos play tomorrow night for Monday Night Football---I think chili mac will be dinner for that.

The cooler weather will be here all week and I am thrilled with that and football being back. Have a great week!

  3. It has been so hot here where I live in California. I walk every morning and I have been noticing the acorns have been dropping for a few weeks, so it's coming. It finally cooled off a bit this weekend. I can't wait for fall. This banner is super cute. Lori's designs are always so fun.

  5. Inspiring that you accomplished so much in a day! I've been following your blog for quite awhile and somehow missed that your daughter attends Colgate. My mom and three sisters live in Hamilton!

  6. This is great!!! I love all her designs too and am waiting for this book to arrive. I live in Canada and wish a quilt store would carry her products..it's so $$ ordering from the U.S.

  7. Nothing says fall like football and chili and this cute little banner! I love the way you combined the blocks and applique. Did you use any type of stabilizer when you machine appliqued the letters? They look so perfect!

  8. Your cute door banner is a fun sight during this ugly football game! My hubby is really disappointed in the Broncos - maybe the second half will be better. Meanwhile, the blocks you chose for the banner are adorable! I think that book was a great purchase!

  9. So cute! Love the Farm Girl blocks. I can't believe you finished the whole thing in one day. Sometimes it takes me that long to make my fabric choices, lol!
So ready for fall weather even though summer seemed really short here in Montana.
