20th Anniversary

Yesterday was our 20th wedding anniversary! It is hard to believe it has been that long. Besides being married to my fabulous husband for 20 years, it also means I have been quilting for 20 years. My hubby encouraged me to get a hobby soon after we married and I think I started my first quilting class in January 1995. Anyway, I woke up to this beautiful arrangement in my kitchen first thing in the morning.
Then, he had this sweet little arrangement sent to me at work later in the day! He and my friend,  an amazing florist, conspired. This one was sent anonymously. He is always a trickster! We are heading to Las Vegas for to celebrate, enjoy some delicious food, and football wagering on Saturday. I am planning on bringing some embroidery for handwork and loaded a couple of new books on my Kindle.
I pieced my Journey of a Quilter blocks of the month together and tried to find a border at my LQS, but was not sold on anything. How about some advice on a border from blog land? HELP!!!

  1. Congratulations to you both. Love your quilt how about something with turquoise, coral/orange white in it?

    Have fun on your trip.

  2. Wow--it's just fabulous! Personnely, I don't think it needs a border--looks more modern the way it is. If you need to make it larger, a narrow inner border possibly in red and then a scrappy piano key border could be fun! I'm looking forward to seeing what you decide--it's going to be great.

  3. Hi Tanya! The first thing that comes to my mind is a solid border, as the quilt is quite busy and it would corral it in, so to speak. My first thought was red, but turquoise might also work as Sandi suggested. How about a thin red border, then a second wider border in turquoise? - the other Sandy

  4. Congratulations on your anniversary!
I was thinking maybe a solid or something that reads as a solid. I am not sure if a spot, gingham or chevron would work for you. I do know that when you find it you will know. Enjoy your time in Las Vegas.

  6. Congrats on your anniversary.. 20 years 2 bouquets and a beautiful flimsy later :) I would also do a thin border that is dark solid then a midtone of your fave color or leftover fabric from the center for the outer border... just my 2 cents :) Have a great trip this weekend too! Kathi

  7. Happy Anniversary! I also don't think it needs a border, unless you need it to be bigger. In that case a small inner border from a single fabric and then a scrappy outer border using as many fabrics from the center as you can is what I would do. Hope you have a great time in Vegas!

  8. When I read border, I thought "binding" so I guess I don't think it needs a border either. And I think a solid red binding would be lovely. Thanks for linking up with me for TGIFF.

  9. Congratulations on your anniversary - a wonderful milestone. And enjoy your trip away.
I think I am agreeing with binding and no border. But that's just me.

  10. Beautiful! Humm...border land? I think I would do one white outside followed by a printed piano key border.

  11. I too like the piano key border idea with a narrow inner border. Only I'd make the inner border one of the very dark shades in the quilt.

  12. Have fun in Vegas, and congrats on the anniversary! For the border, I would go with red and white polka dot to bring out the red pieces. That is IF you must have a border. Thanks for linking up to Building Blocks Tuesday today.

  15. Happy Anniversary! I would say no border. If you really think it needs one, I would go with a medium blue. Solid or something close to a solid. Good luck!

  16. Happy Anniversary! Wow! Those flowers are so pretty. And so is your finished quilt top. Border? Hmmmm.... Yes, a solid would be best. Or a few of them and make a multiple border. A thin red border and a wide cream one? Whatever you decide, it will look great! Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas! See you in 2015!
