Today is my daughter's 17th birthday! 17 is kind of a let down from the excitement of turning 16 and driving. She did not really want anything, so I improvised and got her a variety of gift cards and goodies. I made this gift card and goodie bouquet. It was pretty simple and inexpensive--I hope she likes my crafty effort! It is cuter than anything I found on Pinterest...
Since it is her senior year, we have been going through pictures from her childhood to design her baby ad for the yearbook. We found this sweet picture--she is 4 years old and with our dogs, Dora and Melody.
We are total dog lovers which is why I am so excited to participate in Lorna's upcoming quilt along, Dog Gone Cute. There is a button link on my right hand side bar. I bought the pattern and ordered some fabric to make at least one quilt--probably more. My blog will also be part of the blog hop for the Dog Gone Cute, so I will let you know when I am on the calendar. Lorna designs fabulous quilts with very detailed patterns. The quilt along begins on September 1st! Join in on this one, it is too adorable to pass up!
I am feeling better, so I spent most of yesterday in my sewing room. I finished piecing this top for my mom's charity quilt drive. I used Bonnie Hunter's free pattern "Bricks & Stepping Stones" and dug into my stash. I made mine slightly bigger and set the blocks 9 x 7. I added a 5.5 inch border. Here is a link to the pattern
This morning, I made this week's Farm Girl Vintage blocks, Peas & Carrots and Pie Cherries. My sister and my niece have fallen in love with all the projects in FGV, so they are joining in on this quilt along which makes it even more fun!
This morning Kathy was asking about long term handwork projects as part of Slow Sunday Stitching. My current long term handwork project is Cottage Garden--this is block 2 of 18 blocks! See what everyone else is up to here http://kathysquilts.blogspot.com
We are off to celebrate Heather's birthday dinner at my mom and dad's house. My dad is making homemade pizza in his fancy pizza oven and we have a decadent cheesecake for dessert. Sounds delicious! Have a great week.
Happy Birthday to your daughter. I love your crafty gift. What a great idea. Thanks for the link to the Bricks and Stepping Stones quilt. I love it.

That was a great idea for your daughter's birthday gift. Hope she had a special day. Glad you're feeling better. Your latest quilt top is truly charming with all those fabrics. Bonnie's patterns are ones that just seem to work no matter what fabrics are used. You and your mom's project will be an awesome gift.

ReplyDeleteThat is such a cute gift idea. Will have to remember that. And looks like you've been super busy. Just wanted you to know I got the sweetest card from your mama today. So nice that she outlined everything I sent and what it's being used for. One of the nicest thank you's I've ever gotten!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday for your Daughter, I'm sure you can't go wrong with a Sephora gift card! Your blocks are looking gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou have so much going on! Happy birthday to Heather. I can't wait for Dog Gone Cute to start.
ReplyDeleteWait until she turns 18!!! Love the bouquet, such a clever idea! I'm excited to see all the 'doggie' quilts that Lorna's pattern is sure to produce! And I love the cherries!
ReplyDeleteWonderful piece-y post! Happy birthday to your dd, and good health to you. I'm quite taken with your Bonnie Hunter pattern. Feels very scrappy though you've hit your stash for it. I think the little black and white 4 patches add so much to the overall feel maybe, but love the feel it gives to it. Thanks for your dedication to linking up with the Pet Project Show. You've added so much to the line up!

So glad you are feeling better, Tanya, and one can see it in the wonderful, creative things you have made in the last few days. I'll have to keep in mind that bouquet when next I need a unique gift. Love your FGV blocks and the applique.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed seeing your work on your blog! I will be sewing along in the Dog Gone Cute SAL, too. I love your FGV blocks. Aren't they so fun to make!!
