My house is progressing and seems to be on schedule. The builder and I added the windows on either side to provide more light and ventilation as we were adjusting the plans--I am so glad we did. I finished sewing my 16 pencil pouches for my 5th graders this week. They are stuffed with pencils, highlighters, sticky notes, candy, mug cakes, gum, and a hand sanitizer key chain. I already wrapped them up and will deliver them the week of May 17th. I have packed up a lot of my sewing room and even got rid of my cutting table. My dad is going to build me a new one on casters, so I can roll it around in my new sewing room since I will have luxury vinyl plank. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaZfnCFVjbQtzy_TxFXeAyURsev7Zgaq22gKwhIzCteQPu7_wL7jog6Z5AXEBqwz6QqZ6O17qpZj8Bh-3MTWh3dUUMt0hmGjJXwg5hJmFhgstvKsimGx8uJopJNlnn_MgGPsQWXWCZ6aY/s2048/IMG_4361.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaZfnCFVjbQtzy_TxFXeAyURsev7Zgaq22gKwhIzCteQPu7_wL7jog6Z5AXEBqwz6QqZ6O17qpZj8Bh-3MTWh3dUUMt0hmGjJXwg5hJmFhgstvKsimGx8uJopJNlnn_MgGPsQWXWCZ6aY/w640-h480/IMG_4361.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My foundation is in at my new house. My backyard faces south and will not have any houses directly behind me. Eventually, there will be green space, a sidewalk, and a road. There are a some big sky and mountain views looking south towards Telluride. I am not sure if the trees will stay or go--if they go the views will be even better! It is at the end of a culde-sac, so pretty quiet with no thru traffic. There is also good spacing between the houses which is not typical of the new neighborhoods that are going in. On my westside, there will be extra space between my neighbor and me because there will be a walking path. Sorry I have been a stranger, but I am getting ready to downsize/sell my house and that is taking up a lot of my time. It is shocking how much junk you can accumulate in 16 years. I remember when we moved into this house, we had empty rooms--lots of them. Going from a 900 sq. ft house to a 2400 sq. ft house was a big change, but we have managed to fill it up along with the garage. We park two cars in the garage, but it is nearly a three car garage, so it has plenty of storage space. I uncovered things I moved here from California that I have not touched especially many UFO quilting projects. I will be donating them to some local quilting groups--if I haven't made them yet, I probably won't!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My new house is being built and won't be ready until sometime in August. The real estate market in our town is crazy with homes selling in hours--one sold yesterday in two hours! Especially homes that are in my price range. With the help of my friend/realtor, she put me in touch with a builder that was going to be building a spec home in the neighborhood I like the best. It has a new section of lock and leave homes where the snow removal, front/backyard lawn mowing, and irrigation water is included with the HOA dues. It is also very quiet and on the outskirts of town. So now instead of him building a spec home, he is building it for me! I have selected my lot, floorpan, and some of the finishes (I will get to pick them all out eventually and get to pick where the electricity outlets go). It also includes the landscaping and sprinklers for both the front and back. I have never had a brand new house, so it is fun and exciting to get to participate in all these decisions.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My sewing room is actually going to be bigger than my current room and when I told my builder about my quilting, we decided to put an extra large window in it to help with natural light. We actually added in quite a few windows throughout the house. The whole house will have luxury vinyl plank flooring, so I am excited about being able to roll furniture around in my sewing room. My dad is going to build me a new cutting table on casters to take advantage of it!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The block pictured above is from the February block of the month (BOM), My Favorite Color Is Moda. I better put a new blade on my rotary cutter because you need to cut everything first which will make doing the monthly blocks easier, but is going to take me some serious time this week.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My school district has arranged for teachers to get our first vaccine on Friday. They have cancelled school for our students both in person and online to help accommodate our vaccine appointments. Those of us that are getting the vaccine have the day off and those that are choosing not to get it have to work at their school buildings. The district has also decided that teachers who do not get vaccinated will have to use the own sick days if they contract COVID, but those of us that get vaccinated and still get COVID will not have to use our personal sick days. For this entire school year, if a teacher got COVID or was forced to quarantine with their class/child/spouse their own sick days were not used. I am happily getting the vaccine and I will enjoy my Friday off to work on all my quilting projects! Stay healthy!</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p></p>Tanya Quilts in COhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11410452504665754009noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-125609904005117806.post-10453657083150922792021-01-24T07:27:00.002-08:002021-01-24T07:27:56.286-08:00First Finishes of 2021<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinbdIpHPkmyvEkIbLmNDAVFpxZKWIHirHazi9xvaYz1SrWf4-CrlkEjk2ZIUm8L3ymYPkYIhPu4DEEE0z6ZLGk2ip2GCaWkUx2YyzAaDyhZeraLA4EqsQ29yKfdS1VzkOfx7__4cgkAHw/s2048/IMG_4291.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinbdIpHPkmyvEkIbLmNDAVFpxZKWIHirHazi9xvaYz1SrWf4-CrlkEjk2ZIUm8L3ymYPkYIhPu4DEEE0z6ZLGk2ip2GCaWkUx2YyzAaDyhZeraLA4EqsQ29yKfdS1VzkOfx7__4cgkAHw/w640-h480/IMG_4291.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Snowy morning greetings! There was enough fabric for two, but then I dug into my stash for some blenders to add in so there will be enough for all three. She and her husband are amazing people and will be fantastic parents. I asked her the nursery's color palette and she did teal, navy, and orange with bicycles as a theme. She specifically asked that the quilt included no name as once their adoption is final it may change--so no name quilt this time. I quickly ordered some bicycle fabrics on Etsy and looked for a simple quilt design. I found this free tutorial for a Bricks Baby Quilt: <a href="https://www.diaryofaquilter.com/2019/08/bricks-baby-quilt-tutorial.html">https://www.diaryofaquilter.com/2019/08/bricks-baby-quilt-tutorial.html</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I made mine a couple of bricks wider and decided to add in some gray fabrics in the colors. I love how modern and cheerful it looks. I think I am going to straight line quilt it vertically. I already picked up a dark gray minky backing curbside from Joann's along with a navy Kona for the binding.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYxUe9Mx7jbhsEKVuD8zWlnksAZOelhKR2o_liGULLWF1ivVu03ULQ1k-ZKOAHFwH8b1e-WNBr_lHgGuydu9L5bmTf2zNYq0VhK7lGq-I1pw16KQyobe2hu85YYNWGchhd6HWAsXbspeo/s2048/DFCD6D43-01B7-4CCF-96B3-A4EE3BEB5F0F.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYxUe9Mx7jbhsEKVuD8zWlnksAZOelhKR2o_liGULLWF1ivVu03ULQ1k-ZKOAHFwH8b1e-WNBr_lHgGuydu9L5bmTf2zNYq0VhK7lGq-I1pw16KQyobe2hu85YYNWGchhd6HWAsXbspeo/w400-h400/DFCD6D43-01B7-4CCF-96B3-A4EE3BEB5F0F.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Speaking of binding, I am hand binding this beautiful quilt for Rachel this weekend and she has another one almost finished with the quilting that she needs in time for Christmas. We have had some snow and it is cold, so I am happy to cuddle up on the couch with some cappuccino and binge on Netflix while binding. Have a great weekend!</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /> <p></p>Tanya Quilts in COhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11410452504665754009noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-125609904005117806.post-2134986687208161012020-12-06T07:53:00.000-08:002020-12-06T07:53:17.268-08:00Touchdown Quilt Finish<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_aST9mYsAb-k6U_T5rmLzc_BVgj7I7ilGGlQWQRB8aOB-uyARRal9WwRYdtjuU9oECJ1E1TGuFbywtjUbE5s97dmpsGL1Aj4do-O-k5eU9VGkY7siqgzAYgmonb-Bynl8JxEOcLy1_Z8/s2048/IMG_4242.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_aST9mYsAb-k6U_T5rmLzc_BVgj7I7ilGGlQWQRB8aOB-uyARRal9WwRYdtjuU9oECJ1E1TGuFbywtjUbE5s97dmpsGL1Aj4do-O-k5eU9VGkY7siqgzAYgmonb-Bynl8JxEOcLy1_Z8/w480-h640/IMG_4242.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Look what is done and shipped! This Touchdown Quilt was made for a 16 year old foster child, Diego. I volunteered to make it through a charity on IG called @quiltforachild. I supersized the quilt by adding an extra column of footballs plus a top and bottom border. It is 70x71 inches.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXw64YYQk_Raz94wYUUZMddkai5bYDzpBFSRhZDHV9f8ia0PbbDRzuhhFuaNaBBB_HNr3TFlqV5CqxpRN2rXFlpVGgQUv1D9xYQ-CShWBMoyq-VgCJwq5TGLw-Sb3P7GW4-aSRObfVgAY/s2048/IMG_4244.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXw64YYQk_Raz94wYUUZMddkai5bYDzpBFSRhZDHV9f8ia0PbbDRzuhhFuaNaBBB_HNr3TFlqV5CqxpRN2rXFlpVGgQUv1D9xYQ-CShWBMoyq-VgCJwq5TGLw-Sb3P7GW4-aSRObfVgAY/w480-h640/IMG_4244.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I can't even count how many Color Catchers I used on this and finally I picked up a bottle of Synthrapol from my local quilt shop. Diego's favorite color is read and there is plenty of red in this!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_zWmtcUfrHGXnR6CJL_UInXXs7PUhxWoDrKdevZRqw9MUCHsqqxiS4CGIcojgm-g60SChca8-hCQlINBD1pxZzGwElsnIsrRVtzDpsZnY9PWSW6zo5sXdbahkFpFGI3Ji08dXMWcx7vE/s2048/IMG_4246.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_zWmtcUfrHGXnR6CJL_UInXXs7PUhxWoDrKdevZRqw9MUCHsqqxiS4CGIcojgm-g60SChca8-hCQlINBD1pxZzGwElsnIsrRVtzDpsZnY9PWSW6zo5sXdbahkFpFGI3Ji08dXMWcx7vE/w480-h640/IMG_4246.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Rachel did an amazing job with the quilting! Do you see out her window? We got 10 inches of snow Sunday night and into Monday! Thankfully, our district called a snow day which was needed especially since our buses were already not running due to a COVID outbreak among the bus drivers. Rachel's window faces south looking towards Telluride, but this storm was worse to the north. For the first time in 20 years, they shut the highway down from Grand Junction to Delta. I love snow days especially when it made it a four day weekend--I had Friday off because of parent/teacher conferences earlier in the week.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4SIvIARwQk4RNCG4xgT-c0WbNi4a75qrQGslK21Vp1UNckCOUFWylIJukwN398durlVbtMYzQlEvlSkmFzhfSMlGS4NqA4XkKyemRJJG-4WDD1tux8MvHfiJuQMrTTe-T6Qq1AZeLSGw/s2048/IMG_4228.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4SIvIARwQk4RNCG4xgT-c0WbNi4a75qrQGslK21Vp1UNckCOUFWylIJukwN398durlVbtMYzQlEvlSkmFzhfSMlGS4NqA4XkKyemRJJG-4WDD1tux8MvHfiJuQMrTTe-T6Qq1AZeLSGw/w480-h640/IMG_4228.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">I have quite a few UFOs that I need to make some progress on before I can start something new guilt free. I was like huh? I found this line from Moda Zoology by Gingiber It's a Jungle Out There. Once I decided to order the fabric line, I started to look for a quick design. I decided to make a Stoplight Baby Quilt--it uses a jelly roll. The jelly roll I ordered had 40 2.5 strips, so I made my version a little wider than the free pattern. After washing, it is 46x48 inches.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZlzi8KijN9YdBa90AcN7MaCSMjCE2bqUuh1KuI4zxeY3Gmv6dFaWid1_weu7uUNaUzRUfSyPWeN3-rEQpByFM5uWOplDMwyfoHq2eyaeXydqeT-v0dklmMSuiPRtGEVu4VmO7SNUkeF8/s2048/IMG_4213.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZlzi8KijN9YdBa90AcN7MaCSMjCE2bqUuh1KuI4zxeY3Gmv6dFaWid1_weu7uUNaUzRUfSyPWeN3-rEQpByFM5uWOplDMwyfoHq2eyaeXydqeT-v0dklmMSuiPRtGEVu4VmO7SNUkeF8/w480-h640/IMG_4213.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I quilted it vertically every 2 inches following the seams. I needed to get a binding for the Zoology Stoplight Baby Quilt, so I went to a fabric store yesterday right when they opened. I called Friday and knew they had a Zoology charcoal gray print for the binding and I needed to get a binding for Bjorn Bears too. It was an in and out process with the exception of the end cap that had bolts--finish the bolt and it is 50% off. They had bolts of my fabric kryptonite on there--Bonnie & Camille. I did not even think about it and grabbed every bolt of B&C on sale plus the gray Moda. I had used that in another project and there was 4+ yards of it--can you say awesome backing? All the B&Cs were at least 2 yards--stash enhancement! I spent more than I was planning, but they were great buys and I was still out of there in like 15 minutes...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6uGDhqii1vivY6B0MM5psYnNI0kJfJkBIacVJZfdPqkbP0dVmY2mNCWrX5Wv442lHuP-lZKFt7sDJVHbZnpEo0CLlE8rf6kNRi4niyV6GuhM9dLZ7VFMr-rnX69tzwrKRmrvnS40HPDY/s2048/IMG_4205.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6uGDhqii1vivY6B0MM5psYnNI0kJfJkBIacVJZfdPqkbP0dVmY2mNCWrX5Wv442lHuP-lZKFt7sDJVHbZnpEo0CLlE8rf6kNRi4niyV6GuhM9dLZ7VFMr-rnX69tzwrKRmrvnS40HPDY/w480-h640/IMG_4205.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">I mentioned in my last post that I signed up to make a quilt for another foster child in time for Xmas. More baby quilts are needed, so I finished up all the Scrappy Mountain Majesties blocks last weekend. They go together very quickly and have many setting options. I went ahead and grabbed a gray minky for the backing. I am totally out of navy embroidery floss, so I grabbed a skein of it and some needles. This was my first time in Joann's since February. It is not your imagination--I have not posted all summer because there really was not a lot of sewing going on all summer. I lost my mojo and really did not focus on much. I don't handle uncertainty very well and there was too much of that with how my teaching was going to be this fall. My summer wasn't totally wasted because I did take a few professional courses and read a bunch of middle grade books.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I finally got word that I would be teaching all year virtually. My position is unique because I work at three elementary schools with students in grades 3-5 and see about 60+ kids a week. This would be much too risky for spreading COVID. I also petitioned to work from home and that was granted one day before I was due to report for work! My sewing room has been transformed into my virtual classroom. My cutting table is a great raised desk and some quilts came down and a whiteboard and bulletin board were put up. I bought a tall stool and brought some supplies home from my classroom. Most of my students are attending school in person and will Zoom with me weekly and work on my enrichment activities in their regular classes--it is not ideal, but I feel it is the safest option. Our district has already had a couple of outbreaks and quarantines.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The one quilt I started this summer was this baby quilt. A coworker had a baby back in June and I started to work on it immediately, but did not finish it up until this week. The pattern is from Lori Holt's book, <i>Spelling Bee</i>, and is called the "Name Quilt." <div style="text-align: center;">
Hello! I officially started my summer vacation on Thursday and I have lost my quilting mojo. Pretty much the only thing I have been doing is a little binding for Rachel. She called me yesterday evening to let me know that she was done quilting this beauty. This is "Hearts At Home"--the pattern is designed by Chelsi Stratton and I used a mix of scraps from my stash. It could be a very fast design if you used a couple of jelly rolls!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
This is a charity quilt for a foster child in a residential facility. You can find out more information on Instagram @quiltforachild. Gwen has organized this charity in the last few months and I have been wanting to donate. When I saw an 11 year old, girly girl who loves pink, red, and gray--I signed right up! My favorite age group to work with are fifth graders, which is where Jalyn falls. I can't imagine how tough this lockdown would be for a foster child not being able to go to school right now and get out...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
It is 61x76 inches after washing--pretty good for a twin sized bed. I used a Bonnie & Camille floral from their Smitten line for the backing along with a strip of red with with polka dots (left over from another quilt backing) for the label strip. Rachel quilted it with a sweet flower and swirl pattern. She just knows what a quilt needs to highlight the pattern!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I embroidered the label on an extra block--we are not supposed to include our names or towns. I am encouraged to write a note to include with my first name and state only. It is nice to make something for a deserving child in this uncertain time--it felt good to have a purpose and a focus. I know Gwen has trouble finding quilters for the teenage boys' quilts, so maybe that will be my next donation!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Stay healthy everyone!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Happy Sunday! I just finished sewing these blocks together and rushed outside to get a picture. This design is Hearts At Home by Chelsi Stratton. I made five extra blocks to make it longer. Right now it measures about 68 x 82 inches--a good size for twin bed. This is a charity quilt being gifted to an 11 year old girl in foster care. She is described as a girly girl who likes pink, red, and gray. I dug into my scrap bins and used some Bonnie & Camille strips as well as other blenders. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am using one of the extra blocks as label and it will be pieced into the backing to make it plenty long enough for the longarm. I plan on embroidering the label in red this evening for Slow Sunday Stitching <a href="https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/2020/05/slow-sunday-stitching.html">https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/2020/05/slow-sunday-stitching.html</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I ordered a Bonnie & Camille pink with red flowers for the backing this morning. I am going to set the label block in a red strip and I am thinking red binding. The pattern does not show an outer border and think a bright red binding will be a nice frame. Rachel is planning on quilting it with flowers, so I am sure it will be stunning. I can't wait for the backing to arrive!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Hello! I picked this beauty up from Rachel, my longarmer/friend's porch last Saturday. It was in a black garbage and remained in my car for quarantine until Wednesday--when I finally got see it. This is Summerville in Vintage Picnic fabric by Bonnie & Camille. My sister gifted me this kit a couple of years ago.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Rachel did her magic and picked a chubby flower with meandering vines and leaves. She is a newer longarmer and has a great eye for patterns fitting quilts--I have her make the decisions and I have not been disappointed yet! She is really talented and I think it is perfect!!!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last Sunday, I signed up to make a quilt for a foster child through @quiltforachild on Instagram. I selected an 11 year old girl who likes pink, red, and gray. She is described as a "girly girl." I immediately thought of this pattern Hearts at Home by Chelsi Stratton--so I bought it and started on the heart centers--all of them are pink.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I am going to make it with 20 blocks instead of 16, so it is long enough for a twin bed. I am using pink, red, gray, and turquoise. Rachel is already mulling quilting designs--she told me flowers for sure. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
The gray blocks are done and I am working on the turquoise ones now. Ideally, the quilt needs to be done in 4-6 weeks. I am making it my priority because I love sharing quilty hugs especially with a deserving child.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
This stunner is one of Rachel's. She longarms for me and I hand bind for her. We both love trading--binding is so relaxing for me and she is still exploring on her longarm. She quilted this one with a pink variegated thread and these cheerful flowers. It is a big one, so it will take a little time to bind. I plan on working on it for Slow Sunday Stitching: <a href="https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/">https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com</a></div>

How is everyone holding up? I coped with a little retail therapy this week. My hubby called it "frivolous," but I think it was bargain priced necessities. I have been eying these light weight, cozy sweatshirts from Target for awhile and they went on clearance. I needed the post-it pads for work and mug cakes are a favorite sweet because they are single servings. See necessities! Hang in there and stay healthy!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hi friends! I am sorry for being MIA--I have been working, sewing, cooking, and of course staying home. This whole situation is surreal, but we are making it work. First, I have to say how thankful I am that our daughter is home from college. She and my hubby pretty much drove straight through from Syracuse to Montrose in 29 hours. They arrived here on 3/16. Prior to being sent home, she had been ill at school--fever, aches, chills, cough, etc. We are pretty sure she had Covid-19, but neither my hubby or I have any symptoms. So either we are asymptomatic or she was no longer contagious, not likely. Several of her friends have tested positive since they have been home, so it is pretty likely she had it too...She has recovered and is working on finishing up her classes online. Her graduation ceremony has been rescheduled for May 2021 and we expect her job to be delayed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our school district has cancelled in person learning for the rest of the year and I am busy teaching distance learning. I am grateful that I already used a lot of digital platforms with my students before this, so it has been easier on all of us. I love checking in with them through Zoom meetings weekly--for the most part we are sticking to our regular schedule. I am actually working about the same amount as usual--it is just different not seeing the kids in person. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have used this time to put all my blocks from my Sunday Best Quilts Sampler. I of course used Bonnie & Camille scraps. I am trying to decide if I should add a white outer border like Sheri did or leave it as is like Corey did. What are your thoughts? I just ordered a wide backing that is big enough for either size...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I also made all 64 blocks for Summer on the Porch in Boundless Garden Party fabric. I got this kit for Valentine's Day from Blueprint (they are closed during this time, but keep this one in your want to make queue <a href="https://shop.mybluprint.com/quilting/kits/summer-on-the-porch-garden-party-expand-a-quilt-kit/672545?SSAID=384437&sscid=41k4_hwjiw&sasClickId=41k4_hwjiw&cr_linkid=ShareASale_Banner_ShareASale&cr_maid=46579&cr_source=ShareASale&cr_medium=ShareASale">https://shop.mybluprint.com/quilting/kits/summer-on-the-porch-garden-party-expand-a-quilt-kit/672545?SSAID=384437&sscid=41k4_hwjiw&sasClickId=41k4_hwjiw&cr_linkid=ShareASale_Banner_ShareASale&cr_maid=46579&cr_source=ShareASale&cr_medium=ShareASale</a>) and I want to use this queen sized quilt on our bed this summer. I just ordered a solid looking turquoise for the backing. My goal this week is to sew it together, so it looks like this (below)!</div>

Do you remember this finish? This was Clementine that was a quilt along with Fat Quarter Shop in 2018. I had the privilege of making one. My daughter and I are gifting it to one of her besties moms. Fran (the mom) is a doctor in Kingston, New York and has been extremely helpful to my daughter while she was at college. She has been battling the virus that she got while treating patients--a true hero. She was released from the hospital this morning, so we are sending this as a quilty hug for all her kindness and her recovery. I hope she enjoys snuggling under this cheerful quilt as she heals.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I didn't get to make a last care package to send to my daughter at school, but I did get to put together an Easter basket. It was harder just picking out things online, I missed wandering through Target and Marshalls. I still put some fun self-care items together: bath bombs, French lavender lotion & shower gel, face masks, hair masks, chai k-cups, a water bottle, and Reeses' eggs. She loved it and likes being home with me cooking, her dad cleaning, and our dogs to cuddle with.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
During one of my Zoom meetings this week, a kiddo asked me if I had been to the local food pantry yet. I said no and she told me they had been twice. I am heartbroken that my kids are suffering during this time. I had a grocery gift card sent to their home anonymously and may need to send more to their family and others before this is over. Take care of each other and stay healthy!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
We had Friday off from school--hooray! We did not get MLK Day or President's Day, so we were "teacher tired" and desperate for a three day weekend. I hit Target, the bank, and the grocery store early and got us stocked up. My freezer was already pretty full because I buy meat when it is marked down and I also buy in 20 one-pound increments of ground beef from a local processor. My daughter is being sent home from college, so I needed to get some things for her too. We can probably go for a month, but milk will run out and choices will get slim. I went to the liquor store on the way home on Thursday--priorities right?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I even found excellent respiratory masks at Target for my hubby and daughter. They are traveling home from her college, so masks and wipes were needed. It is doubtful that there will be a graduation for her class in May. I am so sad for them--I have fond memories of my own college graduation. The good thing is she has her dream job--she has been interviewing since October and had to do 11 separate interviews and several writing tests. She is working for a small firm in NYC that consults with companies about mergers and acquisitions. She is scheduled to start in July, so it will be nice to have some time with her before she leaves our nest for good--I guess it is a good thing I have not taken over her room as a bigger sewing room yet!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Friday night, we got notification that our school district is closed from now through April 12th. Our spring break was scheduled for the week of April 6th, so now we have a whole month off. We were told to expect communications from the district by Wednesday about our responsibilities during this time. We were also informed on Thursday that we would be paid and not have to make up the days, so I hope that holds true. If we go to online learning, I am not too worried as I already use Google Classroom with my groups and have great wifi to work from home--most of my students have access to electronic devices. I just wish I could have sent a bunch of books home with my kids to keep them busy reading for the month. I will get lots of reading time myself--got to love checking out books on my Kindle from the public library! After seeing what is happening in Italy, I support the decision to cancel school and wonder if it may be even longer!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I used Friday and Saturday to pin and quilt this Fresh As A Daisy baby quilt. The back is lavender minky. It has not been washed yet. I adjusted the pattern to offset my daisies slightly and it measures 49" x 51". Of course, I used my go to wavy stitch and quilted it grid style every two inches and bound it by machine. I like it so much--I am tempted to make a larger one with an aqua background and yellow flower centers to keep. It is such a cheerful design and could be rather inexpensive if I bought the Kona solids during a 60% off sale at Joann's...So many projects temptations!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Sunnyside was quilted last weekend, but I am hand binding it. <a href="https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/2020/03/slow-sunday-stitching_15.html">https://kathysquilts.blogspot.com/2020/03/slow-sunday-stitching_15.html</a><br />
I will get some photos of it completed soon. I have one more baby quilt to make for a baby due in June, then a break until September. I am still working on my Farm Girl Vintage 2 and need to add borders on a few tops and prep backings. I am trying to restrain myself from starting a new project, but with a month off and plenty of possibilities in the closet my resolve may not last.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am a total homebody and will make the most this surreal time at home quilting, reading, and enjoying my family once they arrive back from NY hopefully tomorrow night. Please stay home and exercise social distancing practices--it will help. There are too many vulnerable people in our communities, to continue on with life as we know it. Stay healthy and make a quilt!</div>

Excuse the lighting--it is a gray day, but I made it outside when it wasn't raining. This one has a light green background. I made most of the bears identical, but there is different bear in each quilt.</div>

I sewed this top together today! The pattern is called Sunnyside designed by Myra Barnes of Busy Hands Quilts <a href="http://busyhandsquilts.blogspot.com/">http://busyhandsquilts.blogspot.com</a>. I decided to make it 48 inches square before quilting and washing. I will pick up a gray minky backing and quilt this one on the diagonals with the wavy stitch. </div>

Next up is a baby sized Fresh As A Daisy Quilt. The lavender is the background, white petals, and the pink for the flower centers. I may also us Lori Holt's <i>Spelling Bee</i> to make block letters to spell the baby's name. When this one is done, I am going to take a break from baby quilts--I have one more for a June baby and two more for babies due in September, but I want to work on something else for awhile!</div>

Welcome Farm Girl Vintage 2 Quilters and Fans! Fat Quarter Shop has allowed me to participate in this amazing quilt along. I absolutely adore Lori Holt's designs and had preordered FGV2 as soon as it was announced. My favorite quilts to make are scrappy--the scrappier the better, so all of my Lori Holt Quilts are just made from my scrap bins with Kona white as my background (I buy it by the bolt). I volunteered to make blocks 21-30 to share with you.</div>

I know it is overwhelming to make the large quilt, but you could make some blocks and easily turn them into a cute door banner like this one I created with six inch versions of the Autumn Pumpkin Block, the Curious Crow Block, the Maple Leaf Block, and the Little Acorn Block and a 12 inch version of the Mr. Scarecrow Block along with some appliquéd letters and a border.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
This is what I have been working on the last couple of weeks! It is Bonnie Hunter's Frolic Mystery. There are many full size blocks, half blocks, and sashing. She had us make a bunch of half square triangles to make a sawtooth border, but I think it is already busy enough. I am going to test some border colors at my LQS and incorporate all the half square triangles into my backing. I have a link on my righthand sidebar if you are interested in finishing our more about this mystery quilt.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Next up, I need to get started on making some Bjorn Bear baby quilts for a set of twins. Have a great week!</div>

Happy 2020! We stayed in on New Year's Eve and enjoyed our hygge lifestyle. Hygge is a Danish notion where you enjoy the cozy, simple things of life--a good meal of comfort food, hot drinks, warm blankets or quilts in our house, a crackling fire, cuddling our dogs, family time, etc.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made the flying geese for the Frolic Mystery Quilt which was clue 6 that came out on New Year's Eve. I have never made flying geese with Bonnie's method--it cuts down on waste, but I am more accurate with the rectangles and squares method. I am glad we finally got to work with our green fabrics.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Clue 7 posted last Friday and I spent most of last Friday and Saturday completing it. Someone did some math and posted that there are over 3100 pieces already for this mystery quilt. I am excited to see how it is all going to come together. We have not used a lot of the neutrals we pulled for it, I have a feeling they will factor into the setting...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am almost done with Clue 8 because it involved no cutting and just some easy piecing. I think we are making two different blocks because we are keeping things in sets.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have my first finish of 2020! This is a baby quilt for a coworker. I used the baby quilt design from <i>Spelling Bee</i> by Lori Holt--I did make mine slightly bigger, but I wish I had even gone a little bigger because of shrinkage. It measures 37 x 41 inches after washing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The truck block is called Grandpa's Truck and can be found in Lori's new <i>Farm Girl Vintage 2 </i>book.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used a minky backing and quilted it with the wavy stitch on my Pfaff. I quilted along the perimeter of the squares and on the diagonals. I only purchased the minky backing and the binding otherwise all the fabric came from my stash. I have five more baby quilts to make for March through June babies, so those will be taking up some time in the next few months.</div>

Happy 2020!</div>

I usually know when teachers are expecting at one of my schools, but I was surprised the week before Winter Break to find out that one of our male teachers was due to have a baby within a week. Austin was delivered on Saturday 12/21, so I started digging in my stash immediately. My spies informed me that navy and grays were the nursery color. I decided to make the Name Quilt from <i>Spelling Bee</i> by Lori Holt. I made a six inch block of Grandpa's Truck from her <i>Farm Girl Vintage 2. </i>I made mine slightly larger than the pattern. This project is definitely my Drop Everything and Make It for December---here is the link for other DrEAMi! projects:</div>

Before Thanksgiving, I stopped by my favorite antique store and scored five milk glass lace edge candy dishes. Three are small and two are larger. I already have a larger one that I use to hold my binding clips and thread. I paid $15 for all of them which is a great buy! I gifted a large one to my mom for Christmas with scissors and Wonder Clips.</div>

I have four more baby quilts to make for spring arrivals. One of my coworkers is expecting identical twin boys in March. I hit a great sale at Connecting Threads and ordered the pattern and fabrics to make two Bjorn Bear Baby Quilts. One will have a mint green background and the other will have a light blue background. I am planning on making the bears from the same fabrics for each quilt.</div>

I made a Bjorn Pillow as a sample for my local quilt shop a few summers ago and I am looking forward to crafting some more cute bears.</div>

I have also been working on my Sunday Best Sampler Quilt--I have all the blocks done and now I am getting them ready to sew together. My blocks were made from my Bonnie and Camille scraps, so they are stunning and deserve their own post.</div>

My daughter/Barbie had her sorority formal on Friday night and she sent me this picture--she is in the silver dress. She arrives home for Christmas a week from tomorrow and we can't wait. </div>

I plan on spending my morning wrapping Christmas gifts, digging out an old handwork project for Slow Sunday Stitching, and pulling fabric for a baby quilt. I have three baby quilts in the queue--one in yellow and gray (they are not finding out the baby's gender) and two for identical twin boys. I decided to make Bjorn Bear quilts for the twin boys. I ordered the fabrics and pattern for them yesterday from Connecting Threads, plus I got a backing for my Ombre Gems top--I had a code for free two day shipping, so hopefully the fabric will get here quickly and I can get to work!</div>
